Author and architecture critic Alexandra Lange’s virtual talk “The American Mall: How Shopping Shaped Postwar America,” looks at the architectural, urban, and cultural legacy of the mall from 1956 to present day, drawing from her forthcoming book American Mall, coming in Spring 2022. Lange will highlight the work of such architects as Victor Gruen, César Pelli, Jon Jerde, and Ben and Jane Thompson, and show the diversity of design within what is sometimes considered a boring building type.
Sponsored by Indiana Landmarks’ affinity group Indiana Modern and supported by Indiana University’s Cornelius O’Brien Lecture Series Concerning Historic Preservation.
